The San Juan Capistrano Planning Commission has approved a plan for a multimillion-dollar equestrian center proposed by Dee Dee Gates, the wife of Orange County Sheriff Brad Gates.
The Creekside Equestrian Center, which would be one of the largest such centers in the county, will include stalls for 448 horses, two administration buildings, a covered show arena, corrals and a veterinary hospital, city planner Tom Tomlinson said.
The center, which will be built on 17 acres of land at the east end of San Juan Creek Road, also will have commercial space for tack and feed, leather, blacksmith and silversmith shops, and a clubhouse.
The commission approved the plan on a 3-to-2 vote.
