MIGHTY INDIES: Virgin had a double-platinum album from Steve Winwood, but a disappointing solo debut from Keith Richards, who peaked at No. 24. . . . Enigma had its first No. 1 hit with Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” while garnering good reviews for the Smithereens. . . . I.R.S. lost R.E.M., but resigned Concrete Blonde, which joins such crit-picks as Timbuk 3 and Jules Shear’s Reckless Sleepers. . . . Profile had a platinum disappointment with Run-D.M.C. (whose last album sold 3 million). . . . In addition to big splashes from DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, Kool Moe Dee and Billy Ocean, Jive has another fast-rising hit from Samantha Fox. . . . Rhino lost Billy Vera to Capitol, but gained critical applause with House of Freaks.
