A free-lance radio news and traffic reporter was charged Wednesday with abusing her ailing 77-year-old mother, who authorities said lived in squalid conditions before she died this week. Cynthia Jeter Green, 38, was charged in San Fernando Municipal Court with a single count of abusing an elderly person or dependent adult.
Green, a former newscaster for KMNY-AM and a former traffic reporter for KFWB-AM, was arrested after her mother, Virginia Jeter, died Monday evening at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Panorama City.
Police said Green had called paramedics to the North Hollywood house shared by the two women and reported that her mother had possibly suffered a stroke. The paramedics then found the elderly woman, who had been bedridden for several months, covered with feces and maggots, Deputy Dist. Atty. Lee Harris said.
Green could be sentenced to up to seven years in state prison if convicted.
