Judges Larry Fidler and Jon Mayeda will take over next week as presiding judge and assistant presiding judge, respectively, of the Los Angeles Municipal Court.
Fidler and Mayeda were elected by their fellow judges to fill one-year terms. Fidler served as assistant presiding judge this year. He succeeds Presiding Judge Richard A. Paez.
Fidler, who was appointed to the bench in 1983, has been presiding in Division 2, Master Calendar for Unlawful Detainer Law and Motion, which handles the majority of eviction cases in the downtown court. He has also served on the court’s executive committee.
Mayeda, a former deputy Los Angeles city attorney, hears preliminary felony matters. He was appointed to the bench in 1981.
