NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Singer-author Barry Sadler, who suffered brain damage when he was shot in the head last year, is missing and needs medical attention, his wife and children say.
They said Sadler was discharged Sunday night from a Veterans Administration Hospital in Cleveland. Sadler, 48, whose “Ballad of the Green Berets” was a No. 1 song in 1966 and who also wrote a series of adventure novels, was shot in the head during a robbery attempt at his home in Guatemala City in September. He was brought to a VA hospital in Nashville and transferred to Cleveland in November. Sadler’s wife, Lavona, who filed suit Tuesday seeking to set up a guardianship for her husband, said the hospital night shift believed “they had to release him because he had not been adjudged legally incompetent.”
