College Roundup : Kronemann Loses to Nation’s Top-Ranked Player

Trevor Kronemann of UC Irvine lost to Malivai Washington of Michigan, 6-0, 6-1, Friday in the second round of the National Intercollegiate indoor tennis championships in Minneapolis.
Washington is the top-ranked player in the nation. UC Irvine’s two doubles teams also were eliminated.
Kronemann and Mike Briggs lost to Brian and Duke Uihlein of Minnesota, 7-6, 2-6, 7-6. Steve Longley and Stephane Simian of South Carolina defeated Richard Lubner and Mark Kaplan of Irvine, 7-5, 6-4.
In women’s gymnastics:
Cal State Fullerton 187.90, New Mexico 183.80, San Jose State 174.70--Heather Thomas won the all-around with a score of 37.55 to lead Fullerton (4-1) in Titan Gym. Margot won the uneven bars (9.60) and Lisa Dolan the balance beam (9.70) for the third-ranked Titans.
In women’s collegiate tennis:
UC Santa Barbara 7, UC Irvine 2--Singles players Cortney Weichsel and Kathy Rose won the only matches for Irvine (1-5) in the nonconference match in Irvine.
In California Coastal Conference women’s basketball:
Pacific Coast Christian 55, Holy Name 13--Kris Dodson scored 14 points, Angie Revert 13 and Donna Allen 10 for PCC (14-11, 5-0) at Valencia High School.
In men’s volleyball:
UC Irvine 3, UC San Diego 2--Steve Florentine, UC Irvine’s 6-foot-6 middle blocker, led the Anteaters to a 5-15, 15-6, 15-6, 10-15, 15-9 nonconference victory at UC San Diego Friday. Florentine had 27 kills with only one hitting error for Irvine (3-9, 2-4). Jeff Babcock led San Diego (2-8 overall) with 21 kills.
