Local News in Brief : Sewage Spill Closes Half-Mile of Beach

A half-mile stretch of public beach in Redondo Beach remained closed to swimmers Tuesday while county health officials completed tests of water samples collected after a sewage spill in King Harbor. They said the spill was detected Monday at a restaurant, the Cheesecake Factory, where an outside grease trap apparently became clogged, causing sewage to overflow through a storm drain into the harbor.
Jack Petralia, a county Health Department official, said warning signs were posted from King Harbor to Ainsworth Court as a precaution. If water tests prove negative today, the beach could be reopened Thursday, he said.
