Prep Roundup : Joyner, Calvert Lead Estancia to Golf Victory

Senior Mike Joyner and junior Ken Calvert shot one-under par 35s to lead Estancia High School to a 188-203 victory over Palm Springs in a nonleague none-hole golf match Tuesday at Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa.
Paul Heinkle shot a two-over 38 for Estancia (4-0).
In nonleague softball:
Canyon 9, Lakewood 1--Sara Roberts and Sherry Panchisin each had two hits and an RBI for host Canyon (3-0), which has scored 29 runs in three games. Kristin Heizer (2-0) pitched a complete game.
Laguna Beach 16, Estancia 2--The Artists scored 11 runs in the first at home and coasted to the victory in a game called after 4 1/2 innings.
Megan Chesley had two hits and three RBIs, Lauren Candelaria had three hits and three RBIs, and Kathy Zeller had two hits and four RBIs for Laguna Beach (2-0).
Woodbridge 1, Huntington Beach 0--Lisa Wehren pitched a two-hitter for the Warriors and scored the game’s only run at Alton Park in Irvine.
Wehren (2-0) singled in the first inning, went to second on an error, stole third and scored when the catcher’s throw was wild.
Woodbridge is 2-1.
Valencia 7, Esperanza 5--Danette Davis hit a home run in the first for visiting Valencia (1-1). Jennifer Huffman had a hit and two RBIs also for Valencia.
Gahr 0, Fountain Valley 0 (13 innings, darkness)--Gahr’s Dede Weiman and Fountain Valley’s Janet Miyahara each pitched 13 innings at Fountain Valley. Rach gave up two hits. Fountain Valley is 0-1-1; Gahr is 1-0-1.
In Angelus League tennis:
Mater Dei 16, Bishop Amat 2--Dax Peterson won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, for host Mater Dei in the league opener for both teams. Jason Harnett and Mike McFarland won at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0.
In nonleague tennis:
Laguna Beach 16, Capistrano Valley 2-- Graham Gilles, a freshman at Laguna Beach, won his three matches, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, to lead the Artists (2-0) at Capistrano Valley. Jon Leach and Lee Kirner also swept their matches.
Sonora 13, Esperanza 5--Matt Rice and Lonnie Tabbaa swept their three matches for Sonora (3-1).
Corona del Mar 15, Palos Verdes 3--David Bain, a freshman, won, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 singles for host Corona del Mar.
Mission Viejo 13, Edison 5--Rodrigo Zulian, Pat Bray and Jeff Holroyd swept their matches for the Diablos (3-0) at Edison (0-5).
