At least 22 bus passengers were injured late Thursday afternoon when a car careened out of control and hit a pickup truck and an RTD bus in Watts, authorities said.
The accident occurred in the 900 block of East Imperial Highway when the driver of an eastbound car lost control after it blew two tires, Los Angeles Police Officer Wallace Carr said. The out-of-control car crossed a concrete embankment, crashing into the westbound pickup truck and the bus, he said.
Most of the 65 passengers on the bus were standing at the time of the accident, said RTD supervisor Jesse Castorena. The drivers of the car and pickup truck were not hurt.
The 22 injured bus passengers were taken to five hospitals. None suffered serious injuries, Wallace said.
