TOKYO — The company at the center of a stock scandal that has shaken the government to its core contributed more than $380,000 to fund-raising parties for Prime Minister Noboru Takeshita, news reports said today.
Takeshita had disclosed last Friday that Recruit Co. spent $152,700 on a fund-raising party for him in May, 1987, when he was a top contender for the prime minister’s post.
The nationwide newspaper Asahi Shimbun and other papers reported today that Takeshita got $229,000 more from Recruit at another fund-raising party that month.
Asked by reporters about the reports, Takeshita said: “I can’t comment on the matter because I do not have detailed information.”
