Boy, 13, Testifies in McMartin Case

The 13-year-old son of a former McMartin Pre-School teacher testified Tuesday that he attended the Manhattan Beach nursery school for two or three years and never saw children molested.

Chad Spitler, son of Babette Spitler, who was once a defendant in the molestation case, said he went on a few field trips with teachers to the fire station and police station, but nowhere else. Children who testified for the prosecution said they were taken to a church, a farm and other locations.

“On any of those trips were any of the children asked to take off their clothes?” a defense attorney asked. “No,” the boy replied.

Raymond Buckey, 30, and his mother, Peggy McMartin Buckey, 62, are being tried in Superior Court on a combined 65 counts.

Called by the defense to counter those accusations, the young witness said he never saw teachers naked at the now-defunct family-run preschool or Buckey touch children on their private parts.
