WORLD : Vatican Wants New Anti-Porn Laws

VATICAN CITY — The Vatican wants new laws against pornography and favors the practice of boycotting products of firms that sponsor sexy television programs, an American archbishop told reporters today.
A report by the Pontifical Council for Social Communications said producing or spreading pornography’s “noxious products” is a serious moral evil. Claims that pornography should be tolerated, Archbishop John Foley said, stem from “bad libertarian arguments.”
The 13-page paper, called “Pornography and Violence in the Communications Media: A Pastoral Response,” said there has been a widespread increase in both.
