A car bomb believed planted by Basque separatists in the northern Spanish city of Bilbao killed three police officers and injured five other people, a provincial spokesman said. The blast occurred as members of a police bomb squad tried to defuse a 110-pound bomb, found in the trunk of a stolen car. Police said it was not clear if the bomb was set off by remote control or went off as the officers tried to defuse it. The five who were injured included four police officers and a firefighter.
