An 18-month-old Van Nuys girl has died a day after the baby-sitter who was caring for her noticed she had stopped breathing, authorities said Sunday.
The baby-sitter, Nova Marcia Thompson, 34, of Van Nuys, was jailed without bail after paramedics and doctors noticed bruises on the girl’s head and body and a burn mark on her leg, Los Angeles Police Lt. Warren Knowles said.
The girl, identified by hospital officials as Jasmine Sanders, was admitted to Valley Presbyterian Hospital on Thursday and died Friday, nursing supervisor Estell Brown said.
An autopsy will be performed this week, a coroner’s official said.
