A reputed gang member was shot and killed by a Los Angeles police undercover detective Wednesday morning after he refused officers’ orders to freeze and reached for a loaded shotgun, police said. The incident occurred in the 1800 block of Rodeo Road, while officers were serving subpoenas in the Southwest Los Angeles area, said Lt. William Hall.
The suspect, Michael Page, 20, was “crossing the street, armed with a shotgun and a bottle,” Hall said. Detective Claude Woods, 49, a 22-year LAPD veteran, ordered Page to stop, but the suspect instead appeared to reach for the gun, Hall said.
Hall fired one shot and hit Page in the chest. Page turned and ran a short distance before he collapsed and died, Hall said.
