A transient who frequently greeted Westminster shoppers with a sign asking for money was found dead Tuesday on a makeshift bed of newspapers under an oleander tree on a San Diego Freeway on-ramp.
A Caltrans worker spraying ice plant with chemicals spotted the body of the 55-year-old transient, whose last known address was in Long Beach, on the edge of the southbound Westminster Avenue on-ramp about 1:55 p.m.
The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of family.
Authorities speculated that the man had been dead for at least 24 hours and had died of natural causes.
