AIDS Terminology
I and others were quite offended by the uncompassionate use of the term “AIDS-stricken” in a caption under a photograph of Alan Nicholson, the star of “One Voice,” on the stage of the Coronet Theatre (Stage Week, June 18).
Alan is a person with AIDS (PWA).
The words one uses to describe a PWA are as important as treating that person with understanding and compassion. As our show points out, one can live fully and powerfully with AIDS and to a greater extent if supported by the rest of society.
