Marina Seeded First in Regional Basketball Tournament

The Marina High School boys’ basketball team is seeded first in the 1989 Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches’ Assn. South region tournament, which begins today at two sites in Orange County.
Marina features 6-foot-11 center Cherokee Parks and point guard Travis Boyd. Saddleback is seeded second, Sunny Hills third and Mission Viejo fourth.
Games will be played at Kennedy and Santa Ana the first two days. The quarterfinals, semifinals and regional championship will be at Kennedy. The winners from four regionals will move to Glendora for the Southern California semifinals on Sunday with the championship at 6 p.m.
The South regional pairings:
At Kennedy: Noon--Buena Park vs. Rancho Alamitos; 1 p.m.--Fullerton vs. Magnolia; 2--Western vs. Servite; 3--Pacifica vs. El Dorado; 4--Kennedy vs. Westminster; 5--Marina vs. Fullerton-Magnolia winner; Buena Park-Rancho Alamitos winner vs. Western-Servite winner; 7--Sunny Hills vs. Pacifica-El Dorado winner; 8--Mission Viejo vs. Kennedy-Westminster winner.
At Santa Ana: 1 p.m.--University vs. Garden Grove; 2--Santa Margarita vs. Tustin; 3--Cypress vs. La Quinta; 4--Dana Hills vs. Los Amigos; 5--Santa Ana vs. University-Garden Grove winner; 6--Trabuco Hills vs. Santa Margarita-Tustin winner; 7--Fountain Valley vs. Cypress-La Quinta winner; 8--Saddleback vs. Dana Hills-Los Amigos winner.
