Jury Spares Man Who Killed 2 Agents

A jury Thursday recommended life in state prison without parole for a reputed narcotics dealer who shot to death two undercover federal drug agents and wounded a third during an ill-fated sting.
In making its recommendation, the Pasadena Superior Court jury decided to spare the life of William Wang, 20, a Taiwanese national. The death penalty was the only other possible punishment he could have received.
Superior Court Judge Gilbert Alston scheduled formal sentencing for Nov. 9.
Wang, who survived after being shot eight times by other drug agents after the February, 1988, slayings, was convicted on July 5 of two counts of first-degree murder and one count each of attempted murder and second-degree robbery.
