Out-of-Control Truck Crashes

An out-of-control truck flew off a Ventura Freeway off-ramp onto a busy street in Glendale on Tuesday, ran a red light, hit a station wagon and jumped a median divider before coming to rest on its side.
Two passengers in the station wagon were taken to Glendale Adventist Medical Center after the flatbed truck, which was loaded with roofing materials, hit the car’s left rear panel, spinning it 180 degrees at 10:42 a.m. The two were treated for shock and minor bruises and released, a hospital spokeswoman said. Two other passengers in the station wagon were not injured.
Traffic on Harvey Drive in Glendale was backed up for more than an hour as crews cleaned up spilled bags of roofing materials, picked up metal and glass shards from two stoplights knocked to the ground by the truck, and as tow trucks towed away the California Roofing Supplies vehicle.
The truck was traveling at 55 m.p.h. on the westbound off-ramp of the freeway when its brakes failed, police said.
