Sizing Up the Latest Version of a Super-Spy Series

I hope producer Albert Broccoli doesn’t panic and fire Timothy Dalton because of the lukewarm public reception given to “Licence to Kill,” the second film in which Dalton has played James Bond (Outtakes, Aug. 13). It took audiences three films to accept Roger Moore in the role of Bond. It even took three films for Sean Connery to catch on.
Incidentally, if anyone should be fired, it’s the United Artists publicity department. Its uninspired print ads had Dalton dwarfed by fellow cast member Robert Davi and by the girl in the film. And the TV ads were even worse. A James Bond rap song?
