Giuseppe Attardi, professor of molecular biology at Caltech, has received the Antonio Feltrinelli International Prize for Medicine, a $70,000 award. Attardi received the award for his research in the mitochondrial genetic system in human cells.
Jorge, Kita and Omar Montano, ages 6, 5 and 2, who live in West Covina, have received an Award for Youth Heroism from Westec Security Co. for rescuing their mother when she fell into the family swimming pool last June.

Carlene Clarke Miller has been named vice president and treasurer for Pomona College. Miller previously was assistant vice chancellor for budget and financial management at UCLA.
William J. Weitekamp has been appointed chief executive officer of the San Gabriel Valley Health Centers Network of the county Department of Health Services. The network includes the El Monte Comprehensive Health Center and public health centers in Alhambra, Azusa, La Puente, Monrovia and Pomona. Weitekamp previously was administrator of the Pediatric Pavilion and Psychiatric Hospital at County-USC Medical Center.
