Resident Theater: Why It’s So Difficult

The problem with creating a resident theater in the L.A. area lies not with the actors. There are a lot of talented, highly trained classical actors here anxious for just such an opportunity. (You won’t see them on television, though.) The problem lies in cowardice on the part of producers and the general lack of vision shared by most artistic directors.
The artist should control the business. Instead, the business controls the artist.
