DHARMSALA, India — Nobel peace laureate the Dalai Lama returned to his exile home in the Himalayan foothills today to a tumultuous welcome from followers who believe him to be a god-king.
Thousands of people jammed narrow streets to greet the Tibetan spiritual leader for the first time since he won the Nobel Peace Prize for his nonviolent struggle for Tibetan independence.
But the Dalai Lama was too tired to attend an official celebration following an exhausting trip from the United States where he heard the news of his award.
