From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Atty. Gen. Dick Thornburgh returned nearly $4.6 million in confiscated drug revenues to the Houston Police Department during a ceremony in Washington. The money was seized earlier this year in a two-week, round-the-clock surveillance by the Internal Revenue Service and Houston police that led to raids on two “stash houses.” About $4 million in cash was seized and another $1.69 million was taken from a vehicle. The federal government gets to keep part of such seized cash, in this case slightly more than $1 million.
