NEW YORK — American and Soviet museums are about to share their first exchange exhibitions of each country’s glass.
This spring, 173 works of American glass, from the 1700s through today, will visit three Soviet museums. In exchange, a collection of Russian glass from the same periods will be shown at the Corning Museum of Glass May 10-Oct. 21, in Corning, N.Y. (This museum and the Toledo Museum of Art are the two principal American lenders.)
A preview of 70 of the American glassworks, entitled “American Glassmaking: The First Russian Tour,” will have its only public viewing before leaving the United States at Steuben’s New York store Jan. 30-Feb. 24.
