For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen:
* A combination of fertilizer and pre-emergence control for crabgrass can be applied to your lawn this month.
* Grapevines are fast growers, and not only do they provide tasty fruit, but offer an attractive arbor cover to provide shade in the summer.
* Clean dust off the leaves on your houseplants and move the ones that require the most light closer to windows with a Southern exposure.
* Early-blooming shrubs to plant now are forsythia, acacia and flowering quince.
* Prune berries now if they are more than a year old.
