9 Injured as Car Hits Back of School Bus

Eight students were slightly injured and the driver of a car that struck the back of a school bus was seriously hurt Wednesday in an accident that left a major Los Angeles intersection badly jammed just before rush hour.
The driver of the car, described as a 300-pound woman, had to be freed from the wreckage with a “jaws of life” hydraulic jack before she was taken by helicopter ambulance to UCLA Medical Center, said Fire Department spokesman Pat Marek. The bus driver and students were taken to local hospitals for examination, Marek said.
The 3 p.m. crash at Crenshaw and Exposition boulevards caused a huge traffic jam, with emergency vehicles, closed traffic lanes and spectators all clogging the major intersection.
