A San Diego State University student was killed and another man was seriously injured when their car crashed through a barricade on Regents Road and over a cliff, plunging 200 feet into a canyon, police said.
Dead at the scene was Eric Joseph Gaipa, 22, the driver. Passenger William Martello, whose age and address were not available, remained in serious condition at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. The accident occurred just before midnight Friday.
Police said the car may have been traveling too fast around a curve.
