2 South Bay Teams Will Square Off in 4-A Playoffs and 2 Others Advance

Four South Bay high schools will play semifinal-round games Saturday night at 7:30 in the CIF Southern Section girls basketball playoffs.
In a match-up of two area teams, fourth-seeded West Torrance (20-5) battles Bishop Montgomery (17-9) in a 4-A Division game at South Torrance High.
Both teams boast excellent point guards. Bishop Montgomery is led by Lily Cabaleiro, who scored 25 points Wednesday night in the Knights’ 51-44 upset over top-seeded La Habra. West’s premier player is Rosa Olloque, who had 18 points in the Warriors’ 48-35 quarterfinal victory over Los Altos.
The winner advances to the 4-A championship game at 6:45 p.m. Friday at Cal Poly Pomona.
In the 5-AA Division, top-seeded Morningside (26-3) faces Chino (25-2) at Ontario. The Lady Monarchs came back from an 18-point second-quarter deficit Wednesday night to defeat host Channel Islands of Oxnard, 66-55, behind the play of center Lisa Leslie (26 points, 21 rebounds, seven blocked shots) and forward Janet Davis (10 points, 16 rebounds).
The 5-AA championship will be decided Friday night at 8:30 at UC Irvine. Morningside is going after its third straight Southern Section crown.
In the 3-AA Division, second-seeded Palos Verdes (26-4) travels to meet Estancia of Costa Mesa (14-12) at University High in Irvine. The winner plays for the title at 8:30 Wednesday night at Cal Poly Pomona.
