30-Cent Stamp Proposal
The U.S. Postal Service is proposing to increase the price of a first-class stamp from 25 to 30 cents, not long after the postmaster general reportedly saw no reason we should object to delivery taking three days. Actually some of my first-class mail has taken from 10 days to 5 months.
At the end of this story, The Times notes delicately, “The post office has been independent since 1971.” Proposals to privatize rapid transit in greater Los Angeles and the Social Security system are surfacing with increasing frequency. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
