SIDELINES : Bombs Delay Spain Cycle Race

LOGRONO, Spain — Two bombs believed set by Basque extremists exploded today on the road taken by dozens of cyclists on the 16th leg of the Tour of Spain, but there were no injuries.
Spanish National Radio (RNE) reported the first explosion ripped a hole in the asphalt of a national highway between Logrono to Pamplona about six miles out, delaying the start of the race.
The second bomb went off two hours later, at the 48-mile point on the route, ahead of the riders.
Officials in Logrono said several people speaking in the name of the armed Basque separatist organization ETA called police before the start of today’s leg to warn of bombs set along the 102-mile route.
