World IN BRIEF : MADAGASCAR : Radio Station Seized as Coup Plot Fails

Rebels seized the state radio station in the Indian Ocean island republic, but the government quickly regained control after the coup attempt failed to gain mass support. Three people were killed and 20 injured in the upheaval, hospital sources said. The rebels seized Radio Madagascar, saying they wanted to end 15 years of dictatorship by President Didier Ratsiraka and his family, who they said had impoverished the country. A commando team stormed the radio station and arrested the 13 dissidents, who had taken hostages, diplomatic sources said.
