Joblessness in EC 8.5%

BRUSSELS — Unemployment in the 12-nation European Community dropped slightly in March to 8.5%, compared with 8.6% in February, the EC statistical office Eurostat said today.
In the first quarter, the unemployment rate in the Community as a whole continued on a downward trend, Eurostat said, compared with the final quarter of 1989.
