To Japan Market: AST Research Inc. of Irvine says it will manufacture the first 1,000 personal computers that it plans to market in Japan at its Fountain Valley plant, said Joel Don, a company spokesman.
The computers, which are compatible with both International Business Machines Corp. personal computers and the NEC Corp. standard machines that dominate the Japanese PC market, will be sent to a variety of large Japanese corporations for demonstration and testing purposes, Don said.
The company has yet to work out a distribution agreement for mass marketing the computers in Japan, Don said.
