SEABROOK, N.H. — The owners of the Seabrook nuclear plant hosted a huge party with a band and opera singer Wednesday to mark the facility’s ascension to full power, more than 18 years after the facility first was proposed.
About 500 invited guests, including nuclear industry officials and politicians, attended the self-congratulatory party under gray skies at the $6.6-billion plant to celebrate the attainment of 100% power, which was first reached last Thursday.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued a full-power license on March 15. The plant first was proposed in 1972 and was completed in 1986, seven years behind schedule.
