Rikers Island Inmate Dies; Inquiry Seeks Beating Tie
- Share via
NEW YORK — An inmate hospitalized after a riot on Rikers Island died Saturday, and officials were investigating whether the death was caused by injuries suffered during alleged beatings by guards.
Inmate Steven Glover, 36, a parole violator, was awaiting a hearing. His death may have been the first as a result of the jail riot, but reports were conflicting and incomplete about the cause of his death and whether he was beaten.
Another inmate was found dead after the clash last week, but his death was ascribed to a heart attack unrelated to the incident.
