Clarke Sets Personal Best in Heptathlon

Melanie Clarke of Valley College won the heptathlon in a United States vs. Canada junior national team track and field dual meet in Levelland, Tex., last weekend.
Clarke recorded a personal best of 5,099 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Kallen Madden of Texas A&M; (4,665).
On Saturday, the 1989 El Camino Real High graduate broke the heptathlon 200-meter meet record by 0.2 seconds, clocking 25.2.
Clarke set her previous best of 5,080 with her win in The Athletics Congress junior meet in June.
Brad Kearns of Woodland Hills won a professional triathlon last weekend in Toronto. He completed the 1.5K swim, 40K bicycle ride and 10K run in 1 hour 52 minutes 20 seconds.
Jennifer Stewart, the runner-up in the high jump for Notre Dame in this year’s Southern Section 1-A Division championships, has enrolled at Valley College and will compete on the track team in the spring, according to Valley Coach James Harvey.
Stewart has bests of 5 feet 8 inches in the high jump and 17-2 in the long jump.
Kent Sullivan, a former Cal Lutheran punter, was cut by the National Football League’s Chicago Bears over the weekend.
