Kraft a Finalist: A work by Los Angeles composer William Kraft, 66, has been chosen for the final round in the competition for the Kennedy Center Friedheim Awards, and will be played on a concert of four competing works by American composers at the Washington, D.C., center on Oct. 28. Announced Wednesday, the other writers of the works set to compete are Frederick Bianchi, 36, of Cincinnati; Daron Hagen, 28, of New York City, and Ralph Shapey, 69, of Chicago. First prize is $5,000.
