The Southern California Jewish Historical Society is offering a history book about the Fairfax District, written by former resident Lynn Kronzek.
In the early days, Fairfax was notable for three fields of activity, the society said in its announcement: “bean fields, oil fields and airfields.”
Since then, it has become a densely populated urban enclave, home to many of the city’s more than 600,000 Jews, as well as other ethnic groups.
The book, “Fairfax . . . A Home, A Community, A Way of Life,” is available from the society for $13.95.
The society’s office is in the headquarters building of the Jewish Federation Council, at 6505 Wilshire Blvd. The society’s phone number is (213) 653-7740.
