Elegant Bargain Wins Pomona Invitational Handicap

Elegant Bargain scored a one-length victory Sunday over My Sonny Boy in the $150,000 Pomona Invitational Handicap at Fairplex Park.
Under a ground-saving ride from leading jockey David Flores, Elegant Bargain took the lead on the far turn.
My Sonny Boy, shuffled back slightly into the backstretch, rallied gamely to finish four lengths ahead of pace-setting Double Quick. Favored Annual Date raced wide and was fifth in the field of 10 older runners.
Elegant Bargain, trained by Bruce Jackson, ran the 1 1/8 miles in 1:48 4/5, earned $82,500 and paid $20.60.
A turf specialist, Elegant Bargin was racing on the main track for the first time since winning a stakes race at Los Alamitos last year.

Sandys Love Bug scored a neck win over Casady King in the $50,000 Pomona Quarter Horse Invitational Handicap at 400 yards. . . . Racing concludes today with Something Comfy heading fillies and mares postward in the $34,240 Amanda S. Stakes. . . . With two wins Sunday, David Flores has 33 victories this season, five shy of Francisco Mena’s all-time record. Roger Stein, with six victories, tops the trainer standings. Eight conditioners have four wins each.
