United Technologies Corp.: The Hartford, Conn.-based conglomerate reported a 22% increase in its third-quarter earnings to $239.8 million on revenue of $5.3 billion, compared to $196.7 million on revenue of $4.8 billion in the year-ago period. The company cited a onetime, pretax gain of $46.5 million from the sale of its majority interest in two Italian automotive firms. Without that gain, earnings would have increased 7.5% in the third quarter.
