With the network’s fall season in full swing and CBS swinging for the fences with Game 4 and Game 5 (if necessary) of the World Series, there is still room for a smattering of eclectic programs on cable and independents stations this weekend.
Nickelodeon will try to crack up the kids tonight at 6:30 with “Hot Rod Brown: Class Clown.” Whoopi Goldberg stars as a guardian angel who comes to the aid of a class cut-up, whose shenanigans have put him in danger of flunking out.
For the more serious-minded, Meredith Baxter Birney hosts “You’ve Come the Wrong Way, Maybe” at 8 tonight on Channel 9. The hourlong program explores the pros and perils of contemporary women’s choices in regard to work and motherhood and their impact on both business and the family.
On Sunday, the USA network debuts a new series, “Dog House,” at 4:30 p.m. This comedy, which will air at this time every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, centers on a family and their talking dog, who is inhabited by the spirit of the family’s deceased Uncle Digby.
And for anyone who missed the stage version, the Disney Channel will rerun the nine-hour, 1982 Royal Shakespeare Company production of “The Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby” beginning Sunday at 9 p.m. The marathon adaptation of Charles Dickens’ novel continues Monday through Wednesday.
