TONIGHT’S PREP FOOTBALL : Santa Ana, Still Winless After Six Games, Faces Huntington Beach
- Share via
Santa Ana High School, struggling with an uncharacteristic 0-6 record, will play host to Huntington Beach at 7:30 tonight in a Sunset League game at Tustin High.
Santa Ana won four consecutive Century League titles and appeared in the 1986 Southern Conference championship game before moving into the Sunset League this season.
Santa Ana has averaged only 13.7 points per game. The team’s best running back, Albert Rivas, has been academically ineligible for the first six games.
“We have a seven-week grading period, so we likely won’t get him back until the ninth week of the season,” said Bill Ross, Santa Ana athletic director. “We’ve been competitive in every game, but we haven’t gone through a losing streak like this since the early ‘70s.”
Huntington Beach is 5-1.
In other games tonight, both at 7:30, Servite plays host to St. John Bosco at Glover Stadium, and Santa Ana Valley plays host to Foothill at Santa Ana Stadium.
