HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : City Eastern League

Morse 35, Mira Mesa 14--Halftime at a high school football game lasts about 12 minutes. That was plenty of time for No. 5 Mira Mesa, with the score tied at 14, to realize it had a chance Friday to upset No. 1 Morse and become co-champion of the City Eastern League.
It was also plenty of time for Morse, a team that came in averaging 50.4 points a game, to get a “healthy” scolding from Coach John Shacklett. Morse couldn’t wait to get out of the locker room. Mira Mesa seemingly never did.
Morse scored 21 straight points in the second half to win in front of 4,900 at Mira Mesa, capping a 10-0 regular season. Mira Mesa (8-2, 2-2) finished third in the Eastern League.
