Southern California Water Co., working with three service groups, will present charities in the area with 350 turkeys to be distributed to needy families today.
The water company asked Assemblywoman Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley) to help coordinate disbursement of the turkeys in the second annual “Operation Gobble.”
Working with Simi Valley Care and Share, the Knights of Columbus and the Rotary Club, Wright will help distribute the turkeys to the most needy people in the area, her aides said.
In other holiday action, the Ventura Jaycees announced that the group will bake 300 dozen cookies to send to the 1,800 Port Hueneme-based Seabees deployed in Saudi Arabia.
Calling the project “A little home for the holidays,” the Jaycees are scheduled to bake and package the cookies at Pizza Hut on Main Street all day Saturday, Dec. 1. The Jaycees are seeking $10 donations, for which the donor’s name and address will be included on a dozen cookies shipped to the troops overseas.
