SOUTHERN SECTION FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS : Whittier Christian Runs Over Desert, 61-28

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE — Whittier Christian High School running backs Rex Pritchard and Ron Rector pounded out a combined 239 yards and five touchdowns as the unbeaten Heralds (11-0) moved into the Southern Section Division IX football semifinals with a 61-28 drubbing of host Desert Friday night.
The victory set up a rematch next Friday with Olympic League rival Cerritos Valley Christian, a 24-7 winner over Bishop. In the last meeting with the Crusaders (6-5), Whitter won, 33-28.
Pritchard rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns in 19 carries and Rector had 141 yards and two scores in 14 carries. Pritchard also ran for three two-point conversions.
Overall, the Heralds had 380 yards on the ground against Desert (8-4).
Whitter scored 24 points in the first quarter and led, 40-8, by halftime.
