Etiwanda 14, Norco 12--Ashaundai Smith stopped Norco’s Darin Steward on a two-point conversion attempt with 2:30 left in the game to help the Eagles win the Division V Championship at Citrus College.
Etiwanda (13-0) completed its first undefeated season in school history. The Eagles had never won a playoff game before this season.
With Etiwanda leading, 14-6, with six minutes left, Norco (12-2) drove 88 yards in nine plays, capped by a 10-yard scoring pass from quarterback Kyle Wachholtz to Steward on a fourth-down play.
On the two-point conversion attempt, Steward tried to score around the left end after taking a pitch, but Smith made the saving tackle near the sideline.
Etiwanda running back William Taukieaho rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns in 22 carries. His two-yard run in the second quarter gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead.
Norco running back Shane Ballard scored on a seven-yard run before halftime, but the Cougars missed the extra point and trailed, 7-6.
Taukieaho scored his second touchdown on a one-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter, giving Etiwanda a 14-6 lead.
The game was marred by a combined 30 penalties.
