HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Kennedy Soccer Wins on Late Save

Kennedy High School’s backup goalkeeper Rolando Gonzalez made a save on Ben Guzman’s penalty kick with no time remaining to preserve a 1-0 soccer victory over host Los Alamitos Monday.
Robert Weber scored the only goal 25 minutes into the game for Kennedy (4-2-1). Los Alamitos had its final chance at a tie after Kennedy fouled a player on a breakaway to prevent the goal.
Orange 0, Trabuco Hills 0--John Abdala had 13 saves for Trabuco Hills and Jose Gonzales had three saves for Orange at Chapman College.
El Modena 2, San Clemente 0--Matt Young and Jose Prado scored for El Modena.
Brea-Olinda 1, Esperanza 1--David Snyder scored in the first half for Esperanza and Marco Hernandez scored in the second half for Brea-Olinda (1-2-2). Mike Smith had three saves for Esperaza and Neil Schuster had eight saves for Brea-Olinda.
Villa Park 3, Loara 0--Keith Amen, Kane Polakoff and Eric Peterson scored to lead Villa Park (4-0).
Woodbridge 3, Laguna Hills 2--Jeff Heilig, Jon Szczuka and Jason Szczuka scored for host Woodbridge. Jim Wambolt had 16 saves for Woodbridge.
Estancia 2, Corona del Mar 1--Ray Solis and Juna Fernandez scored to lead visiting Estancia (2-1) to an upset of No. 10 Corona del Mar. Scott Owen scored for Corona del Mar (6-3). Carlos Rodriguez had three saves and Steve Collister had two saves for Estancia.
Newport Harbor 1, El Toro 0--Todd Tift scored for Newport Harbor (5-1). Mike Hancock had four saves for Newport Harbor and Dan Jacobs had nine saves for El Toro.
In nonleague girls’ soccer:
Bolsa Grande 4, Westminster 0--Jennifer Miller scored three goals and Erica Engelhard added another for host Bolsa Grande (4-2-2). Maurine Bosman had three saves and Sonia Sears had five saves for Bolsa Grande.
Mission Viejo 2, Mater Dei 0--Kenna Bertell and Maggie Doherty each scored for Mission Viejo.
In the Brea-Olinda girls’ basketball tournament:
Palmdale 62, Katella 29--Aimee Grimes had 12 points to lead Palmdale (4-0) in a first-round game. Dawn Vance scored nine points for Katella.
Costa Mesa 49, Santa Margarita 16--Robin Nichols scored 13 points and Rachel Ward added 11 for Costa Mesa (5-2).
Gahr 63, Tustin 31--Shari Needham scored 18 points for Tustin (4-2).
In the Artesia girls’ basketball tournament:
Palos Verdes 67, Fountain Valley 38--Julie Murdent scored 11 for Fountain Valley (2-2) in a championship semifinal.
Kennedy 56, Muir 39--Valerie Ruiz had 29 points and five assists and Lynly Matsumoto had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead Kennedy (4-5) in a consolation semifinal.
In the Savanna girls’ basketball tournament:
Los Alamitos 51, Orange 46--Ginnie Hall scored 24 points and had 32 rebounds for Orange in a first-round game.
In the Beverly Hills girls’ basketball tournament:
Estancia 83, El Segundo 30--Melody Earle scored 22 points, Patrice Lumpkin added 21 and Monique Sweet had 18 for Estancia (4-0).
In nonleague girls’ basketball:
Dana Hills 45, Laguna Hills 27--Lizette Zamora scored 12 points to lead host Dana Hills (4-2).
