Bank of New York: The New York-based institution’s 1990 profit soared to $308 million from $51 million a year ago; fourth-quarter income fell 39% from the year-ago period to $65 million, reflecting a $153-million loan-loss provision. Despite the increased loan-loss provision, the company cited strength in its credit-card business and in American Depositary Receipts and cost-control measures.
